School of Dental Medicine

It is part of our mission to enhance recruitment and retention of historically underrepresented minority students, faculty and staff, to address disparities in oral health and healthcare, and to train culturally competent clinicians who are equipped to meet oral healthcare needs of our increasingly diverse communities.

Destination Dental School (DDS) is an intense gateway experience for underrepresented undergraduate students interested in pursuing a career in dentistry.
The goal of the program is to encourage and increase recruitment of underrepresented students into UB Dental School through preparation, exposure, and mentorship. DDS is a demonstration of UB Dental School’s commitment to training the next generation of dental professionals from communities of color.
The program is designed to encompass hands-on experiences and enrichment activities with faculty mentors dental students, and local community leaders. Through collaboration with UB’s CSTEP program, Destination Dental School is expected to invite 20-25 undergraduate students from across the United States each year. The program is still under construction and is expected to launch in the summer of 2021.
