Introduced in 1977, this award honors professional staff members whose extraordinary service contributions have significantly enriched the university. Award recipients have served energetically, innovatively and knowledgeably in their fields.
Office of Academic Integrity
Kelly Ahuna, PhD, is the director of UB’s Office of Academic Integrity. Her expertise in pedagogy and ethical procedures is deeply valuable to faculty and students as they navigate the university’s academic integrity policies. Kelly has been instrumental in providing critical resources and guidance to the university community by enhancing the academic integrity policy, developing the Office of Academic Integrity website, creating educational courses for incoming students and those who have violated policy, and serving on the Faculty Senate Academic Policies and Grading Committee. A leader in the field, Kelly is invited nationally and internationally to speak on academic integrity matters. She serves on the Board of Directors for the International Center for Academic Integrity, for which she co-founded and co-chairs the Northeast Regional Consortium.
College of Arts and Sciences
Martin Camacho, PhD, is the assistant dean for technology in the College of Arts and Sciences. He is responsible for meeting the technological needs of 30 departments, 16 academic programs and 23 centers and institutes. He serves as a member of the dean’s cabinet, represents the college on university-wide committees, acts as a liaison with the Office of the Vice President and Chief Information Officer, and manages the university’s partnership with Dell. Among his numerous accomplishments, he helped ensure the Department of Communicative Disorders and Sciences’ compliance with HIPAA, and he was instrumental in both the development of the Department of Indigenous Studies’ Haudenosaunee Archive, Resource and Knowledge project and a pilot program providing technological devices and software to support undergraduate student learning.
Division of Student Life
Kesha Foster is the director of human resources and unit diversity officer in the Division of Student Life. Committed to supporting the university’s mission, she has served on the President’s Advisory Council on Race and the Hillel International Campus Climate Initiative. Dedicated to cultivating a welcoming environment in student life, she developed a quarterly welcome session to orient new employees and give them an opportunity to engage with senior leadership, learn about the division’s priorities and build a network of colleagues. She also coordinated with seven departments across campus to create the iDEAL Academy. Recognized with a 2024 SUNY Outstanding Program Award, this multiple-day training program equips supervisors with collaboration skills and a critical understanding of DEI.
Office of Institutional Analysis
Jonathan Havey, PhD, is an associate for institutional research in UB’s Office of Institutional Analysis. He played a seminal role in the implementation of the student information system (HUB) in 2011 and thereafter trained the university reporting community in how to work with the new data. He is responsible for generating and curating the official student data that is the foundation of much of the university’s required reporting efforts, including SUNY and federally mandated reporting regarding enrollment, graduation rates, retention rates, cost and financial aid. A skilled data analyst, he provides essential support to UB’s senior leaders on ad hoc analysis and reporting needs as they arise, and he is a dedicated mentor, ensuring the training of UB’s analysts and the continuity of data across the university.
Department of Surgery
Nargis Hossain, PhD, is the academic programs officer in the Department of Surgery. She oversees a wide variety of activities ranging from departmental initiatives and grant proposals to financial reports and marketing efforts. She is integrally involved in the department’s research and educational programs, advancing UB RISE—a surgical simulation and innovation center—the UB Drone STEM Competition and the Surgery Escape Room. As a result of her efforts, students at UB, in the Buffalo Public Schools and throughout the community benefit from exposure to the medical field, hands-on activities, mentorship and volunteer services. In recent years, she has served on the department’s Social Justice and Health Equity Committee and the UUP Health Sciences Chapter executive board as Treasurer.
Office of the President
Tracey Murphy served as executive assistant to President Satish K. Tripathi for 14 years before her retirement in June 2025. As the primary point of contact in the office, she maintained the president’s schedule and served as a liaison between the president and university leadership, members of the university community and external constituents, such as local and national elected officials, SUNY leadership and representatives from the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. She managed aspects of high-level, and often urgent, institutional meetings, including invitations, agendas, schedules, parking and transportation, meeting spaces, and staffing and background materials, among other responsibilities. Her ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment with remarkable organization, professionalism and integrity exemplifies her unwavering commitment to excellence and dedication to UB.
School of Management
Jeffrey Piscitelli is the senior executive director of advancement for UB’s School of Management. He is responsible for overseeing the school’s development programs and providing mentorship and guidance to gift officers. Under his direction, the school surpassed its $57.5 million goal during the Boldly Buffalo campaign—a substantial increase from the school’s original campaign goal of $40 million. Through his leadership and because of his ability to identify opportunities that match individual interests and philanthropic goals, the school has cultivated meaningful relationships with many alumni and longstanding partners and built new connections with potential donors. Deeply committed to enhancing UB’s advancement mission, he has led or served on numerous committees and workgroups impacting multiple units across the university, such as Student Life, Graduate School of Education, and University Libraries.
Environment, Health and Safety
Joseph Raab is the director of University Facilities’ Environmental Health and Safety division. He is responsible for developing risk-management processes for the UB community regarding laboratories, hazardous waste, radiation, biological safety, fire safety and environmental protection. In this role, he created a Fire and Life Safety division, implemented the first UB All Hazards Emergency Plan, oversaw the EPA Self Disclosure Audit, developed the UB Chemical Hygiene Plan and led compliance efforts regarding requirements from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. In addition, he has provided critical leadership to UB during the COVID-19 pandemic and led numerous campus projects, including the move of large-scale laboratories and the decommissioning of the Buffalo Materials Research Center’s nuclear research reactor.
School of Public Health and Health Professions
Michael Redfern is the associate dean for strategy, planning and operations for UB’s School of Public Health and Health Professions. During his tenure, he played a key role in developing and launching several new academic programs, leading to the enrollment of more than 850 additional students. While at the School of Nursing, he created a cost-revenue enrollment model to support a newly endorsed shared tuition budget framework. Leveraging this model, he co-authored and managed a $1.4 million training grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to establish the school’s accelerated BS program. At both schools, he led the design and implementation of their first decentralized budgeting processes, improving budget transparency and fostering collaborative resource management.
Graduate School of Education
Ryan Taughrin is the assistant dean for enrollment management in UB’s Graduate School of Education. In his role, he has made substantial enhancements to the school’s enrollment processes, including introducing a digital admissions platform, a chatbot on the school’s website and best practices for removing barriers to applying. Committed to ensuring that students have the resources needed to succeed, he has worked to address student needs and concerns in a holistic manner. He has served as a member of the “Realizing GSE2020” Student Services Committee, the Graduate Enrollment Marketing and Central Task Force, and the steering committee for the United Way Campaign for the Community, as well as the university lead for the United Way’s Day of Caring.
University Communications
Sue Wuetcher is the editor of UBNow, UB’s primary internal communications e-newsletter and website. She coordinates with university faculty, staff and unit communicators to plan content, write and edit stories, update the website and deploy a daily email highlighting research findings, university initiatives, breaking news and other need-to-know information for UB employees. A UB staff member for nearly 40 years, she was responsible for transitioning UBNow from print to digital applications. She has been an invaluable campus partner to offices across UB, collaborating to convey important information, generate excitement for campus events and document the memorable moments that define the university. Her contributions have been pivotal in fostering pride in UB and building support for the university’s key initiatives and milestones.
