Department of Communication
Yotam Ophir, PhD, is an associate professor in the Department of Communication and a distinguished fellow at the University of Pennsylvania’s Annenberg Public Policy Center. His research interests include media effects, persuasion, misinformation, conspiracy theories and extremism. His work has been published by numerous journals, including the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, American Journal of Public Health and the Journal of Communication. In 2022, he was the coauthor of the book “Democracy amid Crises;” this year, he authored “Misinformation and Society.” Ophir is a member of UB’s Center for Information Integrity and the Institute for Artificial Intelligence and Data Sciences. A rising star in his field, in 2024 Ophir was selected as one of Ten Scientists to Watch by Science News magazine.
