BS in AI and Responsible Communication

A man stands in the aisle of a large lecture hall, speaking into a handheld microphone while gesturing with his other hand. Students sit in rows of seats facing him, some taking notes. At the front of the room, a podium with the University at Buffalo “UB” logo and classroom technology is visible.

Shape how people and AI talk to each other

The BS in AI and Responsible Communication at UB brings together communication, artificial intelligence, and data skills so you can help people navigate a world filled with chatbots, deepfakes and algorithmic feeds. You will study how AI changes the way we share information, how messages spread across networks, and how to design communication that serves the public good.

At a flagship public research university with leading AI initiatives, you will learn in small classes, work with faculty mentors and prepare for emerging careers that need both human insight and technical understanding.

Why choose the AI and Responsible Communication at UB?

This program is built for students who are curious about media, storytelling and technology—and who want to ask big questions about truth, persuasion, and power in the age of AI. You’ll explore why deepfakes are convincing, how algorithms influence what people see online, and how to design messages that are accurate, ethical and effective.

At UB, you benefit from:

  • A unique interdisciplinary program linking communication with AI and Society
  • A campus home to major AI institutes and hundreds of AI researchers
  • Faculty experts on misinformation, social networks, and digital platforms
  • An affordable, welcoming city with strong community ties
  • The opportunities of an R1 research university with a close-knit department

Families value that students gain communication, critical thinking, and technical skills that translate into many fields in media, tech, education and public service.
