A goal for Catholic Relief Services' development programming in Lesotho was to bring communities together around conservation agriculture and homestead gardening programs. A failure to grasp the complexities of community dynamics resulted in uninformed selection methods, thus exacerbating rather than healing social divisions. Selection methods grounded in social network analysis can uncover divisions and inform strategies for implementation in ways that help to bridge divides.
