Strategizing our next technology applications

Blockchain technology is an increasingly important and potentially disruptive technology. With a strong Computer Science and Engineering Department and Management of Information Sciences departments and programs in the School of Management, it seemed key to unite these and other university areas in research and learning about the technology. The UB Blockchain ThinkLab is a manifestation of that initiative. It serves as a physical learning lab space as well as a virtual connection for industry, faculty, student and staff involved with blockchain projects, education and research.

The Blockchain ThinkLab connects with the university's strategic plan in several ways that help with its mission of academic excellence. It engages diverse disciplines and encourages collaborative solutions to societal challenges. It is forward thinking and responds flexibly in recognizing the evolving nature of blockchain technology. It reflects the integration of university and community in exploring new knowledge. Implementing UB 2020 strategies by:

  • Supporting faculty in innovative research
  • Providing real world education and hands-on opportunities for students
  • Helping industry build a knowledge economy
  • Realizing the university's potential as a thought leader in the field
