Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority (NFTA)
The Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority (NFTA) Metro oversees bus networks in Erie and Niagara counties. Operations at its three bus garages are responsible for scheduled maintenance and light repair. In pursuit of efficient operations, NFTA Metro partnered with TCIE to evaluate a number of facets, including a computer maintenance management system previously installed to improve inventory control.
- UB senior engineering faculty performed an assessment of inventory management activities for the bus maintenance garage and submitted findings, which included:
- Observing bus repair and rebuild operations
- Interviewing shop personnel and managers
- Analyzing material flow, storage needs, material handling requirements, physical distance between processing steps, and equipment and storage layouts
- Evaluating the computer maintenance management information system’s inventory tracking ability
- Completing an ergonomic assessment of the work environment, especially in respect to lifting tasks
A detailed final report of all findings and recommendations regarding the following:
- Analysis of the computer maintenance management system
- Inventory reduction
- Layout analysis
- Ergonomics analysis
- Written response to a State Comptroller’s audit report
