The Heart of the Campus: Phase I

Dear University Community:

I am pleased to announce that the first phase of the UB 2020 Heart of the Campus project will start on the north campus in December, after Fall classes have concluded. This work will include renovating the Silverman Library, located on the third floor in Capen Hall, to create a 21st-century library experience, consolidating Accessibility Resources, and updating and creating new common spaces on Capen’s ground floor.

The Heart of the Campus is a capital priority identified in the 2009 “Building UB: The Comprehensive Physical Plan” and 2013-2023 Facilities Master Plan. The project emerged out of our UB 2020 aspiration to create a vital and sustainable campus environment to improve the experience of our students, faculty and staff.

The Heart of the Campus project will build community and a sense of place at the center of the north campus. It will enhance coordination of student support services, offer new opportunities for collaboration between students, faculty and staff outside the classroom, and enhance the undergraduate learning experience.

For more information, see the Reporter story announcing the project launch. See the UB Libraries website for the project timeline and updates.
