Promoting patient safety of NYC's Asian Americans can lead to a model for patient protection in other communities.

UB's Center for Integrated Global Biomedical Sciences (CIGBS) is engaged with partners and community groups throughout New York to promote patient safety. It was founded in January 2010 and was a Federally Certified PSO from 2010-2017.

The Empire State Patient Safety Assurance Network (ESPSAN) and UB's MMRN collaborate with healthcare systems and community practice sites to facilitate quality improvement throughout the state. The network promotes patient safety and uses health information technology to reduce patient risk. In New York City, ESPSAN works with Mount Sinai Beth Israel’s Asian Services clinic to promote medication safety for patients with diabetes. In Buffalo, ESPSAN works with Oncology Practicioners for the safety of oncology and hematology patients.
