On September 30, Chief Financial Officer Erin Bailey and Chief Operating Officer Mary Sienkiewicz of UB’s Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) hosted their counterparts from the New York and Connecticut (NYCON) CTSA hubs at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Columbia University, Mount Sinai School of Medicine, New York University, Rockefeller University, University of Rochester, Weil Cornell Medical College and Yale University.

The meeting, held at the Clinical and Translational Research Center on the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus, focused on National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS) Common Metrics (Median IRB Review Duration, Pilot Funding Publications and Subsequent Funding, and Careers in Clinical and Translational Research), possible collaborations across NYCON CTSAs, and roundtable sharing of successful workforce development and community engagement strategies.

Timothy Murphy, MD, senior associate dean for clinical and translational research in the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (JSMBS) and principal investigator of the CTSA, welcomed the group and later provided an overview of his research and infectious disease laboratory. Participants learned about the Translational Imaging Center from John Canty, MD, who is chief of the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine, JSMBS, co-principal investigator of the CTSA and director of the CTSA Imaging Core.

A tour and overview of the Clinical Research Office was provided by Kimberly Brunton, associate operational director. Research Facilities and Building Manager Terry-Ann Smith provided a tour of the CTRC and an overview of the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus.
