John W. Welte, PhD

Dr. Welte is an emeritus senior research scientist at RIA. His latest research focused on problem gambling, as co-principal investigator on the Survey of Gambling in the U.S., which analyzed trends in gambling behaviors and problems over a decade-long period. Other recent research includes studying the ecological and sociocultural influences on Native American gambling and alcohol use. Over his decades-long career, he has also studied alcohol use among various populations, including adolescents, elderly, and the homeless, and the relationship between substance use disorders and delinquency.
