Jarvis Hall (JARVIS) - North Campus, Academic Sector
 | | |
Jarvis Hall
Part of the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Jarvis Hall houses several engineering technical support services, including the Engineering Machine Shop and Engineering Design Services. Jarvis also is home to the Great Lakes Program, which coordinates scientific and technical knowledge on the Great Lakes ecosystem in support of public education and policy formation.
Namesake
Astronaut Gregory Jarvis (1944-1986), a graduate of UB's electrical engineering program, lost his life with six others on the space shuttle Challenger. Only one year earlier Jarvis had given an inspirational commencement address at UB's 1985 graduation ceremony. After his death, students nailed a sign reading "Jarvis Hall" to the Engineering East building. The name was made official in a 1987 dedication ceremony.
