External Conferences

Undergraduate research often extends beyond campus. Conferences and publications allow students to share their work, exchange ideas with peers and scholars, and contribute to broader academic conversations.

The Office for Undergraduate Research helps connect students and faculty mentors with opportunities to present, publish and engage with research communities across disciplines.

SUNY Undergraduate Research Conference (SURC)

SURC is a multidisciplinary conference held each spring that brings together undergraduate researchers and faculty mentors from across the SUNY system.

Students present their work through oral presentations, posters, performances and artistic displays. The conference also includes workshops, networking opportunities and conversations with graduate programs from across the state.

Presenting at the conference allows students to share their work, receive feedback, and connect with a broader community of undergraduate researchers.

Visit the SUNY Undergraduate Research Conference website to learn more.

Questions about the conference may be directed to SURC@SUNY.edu.

National Conferences on Undergraduate Research (NCUR)

NCUR is a national event dedicated to showcasing undergraduate research across all academic fields. The conference is hosted each spring and welcomes students presenting scholarly, creative and applied work. Learn more about submitting your work by visiting the NCUR website.

Students accepted to present their research may be eligible for funding support through the Office for Undergraduate Research. Funding guidelines and request forms are available on our Funding page.

CUR - Posters on the Hill

Each year, the Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR) hosts Posters on the Hill, an undergraduate research poster session on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C.

The event showcases undergraduate research while giving members of Congress the opportunity to speak directly with the students whose academic experiences are shaped by these programs. Visit the CUR Posters on the Holl website for information on this year’s event.

PURM: Perspectives on Undergraduate Research and Mentoring

PURM is a multidisciplinary, peer-reviewed online journal dedicated to scholarship about undergraduate research and the mentoring that supports it.

The journal includes a Student Perspectives section that welcomes submissions from undergraduate students reflecting on their research experiences.

Students interested in contributing are encouraged to speak with their faculty mentor about developing a submission.
