Funding Opportunities

At UB, research is central to our mission as a leading R1 institution. We provide funding opportunities that help make faculty-mentored research accessible, sustainable and impactful for undergraduate students.

Whether you are launching a project, sharing your findings or building on completed work, our funding programs are designed to support your growth as a researcher.

Faculty Mentor Required

Faculty mentorship remains central to undergraduate research at UB. All students applying for funding through the Office for Undergraduate Research must partner with a UB faculty mentor who agrees to:

  • Oversee the proposed experience.
  • Administer funds in accordance with the approved budget.
  • Support the scholarly or creative direction of the work.

Project Funding

Project funding helps make undergraduate research possible.

Students may apply for support to cover materials and supplies that are essential to achieving their project goals. This funding is designed to ensure that strong ideas have the resources needed to move forward.

Conference Funding

Conference funding supports students who are ready to share their research beyond campus.

Students may apply for funding to present their work at a local, regional or national conference. Presenting research strengthens communication skills, builds professional networks and advances scholarly development.

Enrichment Award

The Enrichment Award supports advanced undergraduate students who are ready to take their research further.

Current juniors and seniors who have completed a faculty-mentored research project and earned a digital badge through the Office for Undergraduate Research (formerly the Experiential Learning Network) may apply for funding to expand, deepen or extend their work in meaningful ways.

Ready to Take the Next Step?

Each funding program has specific eligibility criteria, deadlines and application requirements. Review the individual funding pages to determine which opportunity aligns with your research stage and goals.

Where curiosity leads, discovery continues—and funding can help move your work forward.
