Men's

Akron 78, UB 77
Northwestern 79, UB 63

UB was seconds away from its first-ever road victory in the MAC.

It took just that long for Akron's Rashon Brown to break UB's heart as he went half the length of the floor in the last 4.1 seconds to bank in the game-winner as the buzzer sounded to lift the Zips to a 78-77 win over UB on Saturday night.

The Bulls, who led 40-31 at halftime, held off Akron for most of the second half until the final 4 minutes, then looked like they had the game won in the final 5 seconds. After running the clock down, senior Louis Campbell drove the lane before feeding Jason Robinson in the right corner, who buried a three-pointer with 4.1 seconds left to give UB the lead, 77-76, and an apparent win.

However, Akron's Brown caught an inbounds pass near half-court, then dribbled to the basket before banking in a 5-foot floater as the horn sounded.

The week began for the Bulls with a non-conference matchup, as Northwestern University used a powerful inside game and a large rebounding edge to down UB, 79-63, in Welsh-Ryan Arena in Evanston.

Women's

UB 62, Marshall 49
Northern Illinois 63, UB 55

Senior Mari McClure scored 12 of her game-high 18 points in the final 7:24 of the game, and senior Sonia Ortega recorded her second double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds to send UB to a convincing 62-49 win at Marshall.

The Bulls and the Thundering Herd battled back and forth for the first 20 minutes of the game, with UB coming out on top with a slim 29-28 lead at halftime. A three-pointer by senior Tara Perrier and eight straight points by McClure gave UB its first double-digit lead of the game, 52-42, with 5:08 remaining. McClure hit another jumper and two free throws before the final buzzer, helping the Bulls close the game with a 21-10 run.

UB opened the week against Northern Illinois, dropping just its second home game of the year, 63-55.
