Looking for help creating course Web pages, PowerPoint presentations, listservs or digital media files? Go to the Educational Technology Center (.etc.), located on the second floor of the Capen Hall Libraries http://www.etc.buffalo.edu/. The .etc. is dedicated to supporting UB faculty and instructors investigating the ways in which educational technologies can be used to support students' multiple learning styles, and to helping faculty integrate Web-based and multimedia technologies into their teaching. The .etc. is directed by David Willbern, associate vice provost for educational technology and professor of English, and is a joint project of the Provost's Office, CIT, the University Libraries and UB faculty.

The .etc. provides assistance in multimedia development, software applications and course Web-site development, including help with site architecture, design and graphical elements, copyright and trademark adherence, navigational elements, site identification, file size and the creation of digital audio and video files. The .etc. staff also will facilitate meeting with subject-specialist librarians about integrating digital resources, such as library databases, electronic text-and-image collections, electronic journals and Internet resources, into the teaching-and-learning process. The .etc. offers both on-site and on-call expertise. Drop in or contact the .etc.-etc@buffalo.edu or 645-7700-to set up an appointment. If you have a specific project or course you would like help with, fill out a course-development request form online at http://www.etc.buffalo.edu/course_dev_form.htm.

.etc. staff also provides extensive training, including one-on-one, small-group and workshop instruction, in a variety of technological tools and pedagogical applications. The workshop calendar for Spring 2001 is available at http://www.etc.buffalo.edu/workshops/sp01_workshops.htm. Current workshops include sessions on using Blackboard on UBLearns, working with digital imagery, Web-site creation and much more. The .etc. workshops are open to all UB instructors-full-time and part-time faculty, adjuncts, lecturers, teaching assistants and MFC instructors-as well as IT staff and library faculty and staff. The .etc. Web site also provides easy links to other campus workshops for both faculty and students, as well as links to .etc.-supported projects and tutorials in the use of a variety of technological tools.

The .etc. facility itself has Windows, MacIntosh, SGI and Sun workstations for individual and group work. All stations include access to printers and scanners. Digital cameras (still and video), scanners (including a slide scanner), a VCR for digital-video editing, a tape recorder and a CD-ROM burner can be borrowed or used in the .etc.
