The Bulls completed their 2000 season this past week, dropping a three-game series with Stony Brook at Dunn Tire Park. The Seahawks swept a doubleheader on Saturday, 9-3 and 9-5, and took a single game on Sunday, 4-3.

In the doubleheader, Adrian Daniels was nearly perfect at the plate, going 6-for-7 with six runs scored on the day. He followed that up with a 2-for-3 performance on Sunday. Jeff Robertson pitched a complete game on Sunday, despite the loss. He went 9.0 innings and gave up four runs, three earned, on 11 hits. The Bulls' defense played well behind Robertson, as the infield turned a total of six double plays.

In other action from last week, the Bulls split a doubleheader with Niagara on May 2, losing the first game, 2-0, and winning the nightcap, 7-2. In the second game, Daniels went 3-for-4 and knocked in four RBIs, including a home run. Kevin Nesteruk went 3-for-3, with two runs scored. John Sullivan was the winning pitcher with a complete game, giving up two runs on five hits over seven innings.

On May 3, UB played at Canisius and lost 10-2 to the Golden Griffins. Kevin Brown and Mike Flaherty both had two hits on the day and both scored a run.

The Bulls played a rare tripleheader Saturday afternoon as they hosted Youngstown State to complete the season. A first-inning grand slam by Kelly Malone held up as the Bulls defeated the Penguins, 4-2, in game one. Starting pitcher Jessica Kensy picked up the win, getting out of a jam in the top of the seventh with a pair of runners on and the go-ahead run at the plate.

UB dropped game two, 2-1, as a Bulls seventh-inning rally fell short. Malone connected on her second home run of the day and sixth of the season for the lone UB run. Strong pitching by Andrea Sage, who did not allow an earned run, and a strong defense forced Youngstown to strand 12 runners in the contest, leaving the bases loaded in the fifth and sixth innings.

UB's defense was its downfall in the final game of the day, as the Bulls committed nine errors in the 9-2 loss. All nine runs in the contest were unearned. Youngstown State sent 11 batters to the plate in a seven-run fourth inning that saw UB commit five errors. The Bulls led, 2-0, after the first inning, as Danielle Haynes scored on a wild pitch and Malone got Jennifer Moore home on an RBI groundout.

Earlier in the week, the Bulls were swept by Niagara, 8-0 and 9-7, on May 2. In the second game, UB took a 7-4 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth, thanks to a three-run double by Moore. Niagara rallied for five runs of its own in the bottom of the inning, as Brooke Bradburn plated the winning run with an RBI single.

In the last home meet for UB before the Mid-American Conference Championships on May 18-20, the track-and-field team set some school records during the UB Open, held this past weekend.

On the women's side, Jenelle Callender won both the 100-meter dash and the 200-meter dash, setting a school record in both events. She finished with a time of 11.98 in the 100-meter and a time of 24.49 in the 200-meter. In addition, Sarah Kranzler set a school record in the heptathlon, finishing with 4,653 points-good for a second-place finish.

In the men's events, Kamau Halim set a personal best in the 110-meter high hurdles, placing first in that event with a time of 15.00. In the triple jump, he set a new personal best and a new school record. Halim took first place in the triple jump with a leap of 50-'11.00" to break his own previous school record, the third time he has bettered his own mark this spring. Steve Esler took first-place honors in the decathlon with a total score of 6,048 points, also setting a new UB school record.
