  • Negotiations under way on Metro passes

UB and the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority (NFTA) are continuing negotiations to extend the free Metro Rail Pass Program for faculty, staff and students into the fall 2012 semester.

The current pilot program expires at the end of August.

If an agreement is not reached before the start of the fall semester, Parking and Transportation Services will add another Blue Line shuttle to the schedule to accommodate riders between the South and Downtown campuses. The Blue Line would pick up riders at each stop every 30 minutes, rather than once an hour.

Under the pilot program, the NFTA provided a limited number of free passes to UB faculty, staff and students who live within 3/4 of a mile of the NFTA Metro Rail line or have responsibilities that require travel between the South and Downtown campuses.

The passes could be used for free travel on the rail line only.

Weird how Canisius, Buff State, Bryant and Stratton, and ECC don't seem to be having this problem. But I'm sure a single extra bus with limited stops will be just as good - and contribute equally to UB's zero-emissions goal.
