  • Time to change health insurance

The Option Transfer Period for state employees, during which workers can change their health insurance carrier, voluntarily cancel coverage or delete dependents, runs through Dec. 31.

Information on the Option Transfer and the Opt-Out Program, 2013 health insurance rates by bargaining unit and forms are on the HR website under “Quick Start” or by clicking here.

Detailed information on the Empire Plan, BlueCross Blue Shield of Western New York and Independent Health can be found on the New York State Health Insurance Program (NYSHIP) website.

  • Donate vacation time to Sandy victims

UUP members who earn vacation days now may donate them to state workers who are unable to return to work because of Hurricane Sandy.

Eligible donors must have at least 10 vacation days accrued and may not donate days that otherwise would be forfeited. Sick leave cannot be donated.

Eligible recipients must have exhausted all personal leave or vacation days; they may use donated time to secure a new residence or repair a residence damaged in the story.

Those interested in donating days should contact either the Buffalo Center Chapter, the Health Science Chapter or University Human Resources.
