  • Sessions to address Child Protection Policy

President Satish K. Tripathi recently signed UB’s Child Protection Policy, underscoring the university’s commitment to protect the safety and welfare of children on campus.

The policy outlines the behavioral expectations toward children, requires the reporting of child abuse and inappropriate behavior, and describes the reporting procedure.

While most university-related programs and activities involve individuals who are 18 years of age or older, UB does sponsor many activities geared toward children, such as sport and summer camps, day care and academic enrichment programs, notes Sharon Nolan-Weiss, director of UB’s Office of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.

Moreover, many members of the university community also may work with children as part of their work or academic obligations, she says.

“These programs and activities carry increased obligations to safeguard children on campus,” Nolan-Weiss says, stressing that UB faculty, staff, and students who work with children must be fully aware of the behavioral expectations and reporting requirements.

To assist in increasing that awareness, The Office of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion will hold three information sessions on the Child Protection Policy.

The sessions will be held from 10-11 a.m. May 22 and May 23, and from 2-3 p.m. May 30. All sessions will take place in 330 Student Union, North Campus.

Those wishing to attend should register by sending an email to aa-diversity@buffalo.edu. Questions regarding the information session or the Child Protection Policy should be directed to the Office of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion at 645-2266.
