  • Supervisors’ forum planned

    UB supervisors interested in learning how “continuous improvement” can help them manage their departments can take part in a free Supervisors’ Learning Forum on the subject being held from 9-11 a.m. May 22 in Agrusa Auditorium in Davis Hall, North Campus.

    The speaker will be Thom Marra, a staff member at UB’s TCIE (formerly known at the Center for Industrial Effectiveness), who has more than 35 years experience applying various problem-solving tools and methodologies to a variety of industries.

    The forum is co-sponsored by the Office of Organizational Development & Training, the Professional Staff Senate and TCIE.

  • PSS to sponsor conference

    Bestselling author and internationally recognized communication expert Debra Fine will be the keynote speaker at “Are you up to Speed?” the annual professional development conference presented by the Professional Staff Senate.

    The conference, designed to promote staff development and job satisfaction, will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 1 in the Holiday Inn, Grand Island.

    An optional cruse on the Grand Lady will follow the conference from 4-5:30 p.m.

    Fine’s talk, “The Fine Art of Cultivating Campus Connection,” will help participants learn how to develop business relationships and include tips for building networking skills, developing conversation techniques and mastering introductions and remembering names.

    Following Fine’s keynote, workshops will address such topics as understanding emerging web technologies, learning simple and practical stress busters, using LinkedIn to meet professional goals and learning speed-reading techniques.

    The cost of the conference, which includes continental breakfast, buffet lunch, afternoon refreshments and the Grand Lady cruise, is $30 for UB staff and $35 for those with no UB affiliation.
