  • Take the Polar Plunge

UB faculty, staff and students are encouraged to join Team UB for the third annual Polar Plunge into Lake Erie for the Special Olympics.

The plunge will take place at 2 p.m. Dec. 3 at Woodlawn Beach in Hamburg. Transportation and a Team UB T-shirt will be provided to those who are registered on the official Special Olympics website.

Contrary to the event’s name, participants need not plunge into Lake Erie; an ankle-deep walk into the lake is all that’s required.

Members of Team UB must raise a minimum of $25 to participate—$10 due upon initial registration.

For further information, or to join the Team UB planning committee, contact Amy Wilson at abwilson@buffalo.edu.

Members of the university community are asked to bring any nonperishable food item or monetary donation to Alumni Arena that night. Donation tables will be open from 6-7 p.m. at both entrances to the arena.

UUP members who show their UUP/NYSUT membership cards or their UB Cards when making a donation will receive one free ticket to that night’s game. Non-UUP members will receive a voucher for $5 off the price of a ticket.

    Tipoff is 7 p.m.
