  • Enroll in ‘Exercise is Medicine’

    UB employees have the opportunity to enroll in the American College of Sports Medicine’s Exercise is Medicine program being offered this spring at UB.

    The program, being presented by Wellness and Work/Life Balance in collaboration with the Department of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences and Recreational and Intramural Services, provides participants with an exercise prescription to help meet their individual fitness goals.

    The fee for the program is $60, but participants receive more than $200 worth of services, including personal comprehensive fitness testing, a custom exercise prescription and 12 weeks of supervised workouts at Alumni Arena.

    Although all UB employees are eligible to enroll, approval from a physician is required.

    Space in the program is limited; applications will be accepted until close of business on Feb. 4.

  • Outdoor Pursuits sponsoring 2 Alaskan trips

    UB’s Outdoor Pursuits program is offering two trips to Alaska this year.

    The trips, set for on May 17-25 and Aug. 2-10, will be led by Russ Crispell, director of outdoor pursuits. Crispell is a New York State licensed guide, a certified wilderness first responder and wildreness first aid instructor, as well an instructor for the American Red Cross and the American Heart Association. He has led nine previous trips to Alaska.

    Planned activities include backpacking, horseback riding, white-water rafting, climbing Mount Healy, panning for gold, hiking on the Iditarod Trail and hiking Matanuska Glacier.

    Cost of the trips is $1,000 per person, plus the cost of the flight to Anchorage.

    Space is limited. The deadline for registration and $750 deposit is Feb. 15 for the May trip and June 15 for the August trip.

  • Weight Watchers on campus

    A weekly noontime Weight Watchers session will begin on Feb. 3 in 118 Baldy Hall, North Campus.

    The fee can be paid through payroll deduction.
