UB participating in state ERI

The SUNY Board of Trustees last week approved SUNY’s participation in the state Early Retirement Incentive (ERI) program for 2010, giving UB employees several options for early retirement incentives.

Employees may take part in the Voluntary Separation Incentive Program offered by UB or any part of the ERI for which they are eligible:

  • Part A: For members of ERS (Employees Retirement System) TRS (Teachers Retirement System) or the SUNY ORP (Optional Retirement Plan) who are at least age 50 with 10 or more years of credible service. Provides up to an additional 36 months of service credit (normal age reductions apply) for ERS/TRS members or an additional cash contribution for members of the ORP. The open period for Part A is Oct. 3 through Dec. 31.
  • Part B: For members of ERS or TRS only who are between ages 55-61 and who have between 25-29 years of service. This program will allow eligible employees to retire without the lifetime reduction of their retirement benefit imposed for retiring prior to reaching age 62 or acquiring 30 or more years of service credit. The open period for Part B is July 8 through Sept. 30.
  • NYSUT: The NYSUT (New York State United Teachers) incentive program is virtually identical to the Part B program, but is open only to employees represented by NYSUT affiliated bargaining units (e.g., UUP). The open period for this program is Oct. 3 to Dec. 31.

Eligible employees must be in active service from Feb. 1, 2010, until the beginning of the open enrollment period.

Employees cannot combine the UB Voluntary Separation Incentive Program with any state early retirement incentive.

A declaration of interest form is available on the University Human Resources website or by contacting the HR Benefits unit.
