  • Ballroom dancing classes to be held

The next sessions of ballroom dancing classes, sponsored by the Wellness and Work/Life Balance unit in University Human Resources, begins March 10 and 11.

Dancing may lead to weight loss, increased flexibility, enhanced strength, better posture, increased self-confidence, lowered blood pressure, and increased energy and endurance. Singles are welcome to register.

The cost for eight lessons is $80 per person, or $160 per couple. South Campus classes will be held Thursdays at 6 p.m. from March 11 through April 29 in the Clark Hall Dance Studio. North Campus classes will be held Wednesdays at 6 p.m. from March 10 through April 28 in the Alumni Arena Dance Studio.

  • Be aware of truck traffic

Faculty and staff driving and walking along the Audubon Parkway on the North Campus are advised to exercise additional caution due to increased traffic in the area.

Construction of William R. Greiner Hall at the Ellicott Complex has brought an increase in commercial truck traffic to the Audubon Parkway on the north side of campus. Drivers and pedestrians crossing the highway should be aware of the increased traffic, especially semi-trailers delivering steel and pre-cast concrete planks to the construction site. The trucks enter and exit the site via the southbound lanes of the parkway.

The situation is expected to last until May 1.

  • PSS to meet

The leadership of University Human Resources will discuss UB’s continuing efforts to build and strengthen its workforce at the next meeting of the Professional Staff Senate, to be held at 3 p.m. Feb. 25 in the Center for Tomorrow, North Campus.

Speaking will be Scott Morris, associate vice president; James Jarvis, assistant vice president; and Kathie Frier, director of wellness and worklife balance.

All members of the professional staff are encouraged to attend.

For more information, call the PSS office at 645-2003.

  • Program to train beginning runners

Fleet Feet Sports is bringing its “No Boundaries” 5-K training program to UB faculty and staff next month.

“No Boundaries” is a 12-week program for beginner runners, or for those who have run in the past but have been away from it for a while. Fleet Feet Sports’ coaches and mentors will provide participants with the motivation to keep them moving, guidance and advice, a weekly group run, educational seminars and the camaraderie and friendship of other runners.

The goal is to get participants to the finish line of a 5-K event.

Fleet Feet Sports is holding informational meetings about its “No Boundaries” program on campus on Feb. 22 and March 4.
