  • UB team ‘freezin’ for a reason’

UB’s Polar Plunge team is looking for faculty, staff and students willing to take a dip in Lake Erie next month to benefit the Special Olympics.

The Western New York Polar Plunge is one of 10 plunges taking place across New York State from Nov. 7 through March 13 to raise money for the Special Olympics.

The Western New York plunge will take place Dec. 6 at Hamburg Town Beach. Check-in begins at 9 a.m.; the plunge is at noon. Transportation will be provided from the North Campus to Hamburg for all UB team members who register in advance.

UB is competing with other local college and universities for number of participants and money raised. The goal is to have more than 100 members on the UB team and raise at least $10,000, according to team organizers Amy Wilson, associate director of the Center for Student Leadership & Community Engagement, and Mark Gates, university police officer.

Participants may register online; be sure to register under “Join a Team” and select the “University at Buffalo.”
