Richard A. Sebian, a retired supervisor of grounds for UB, died Sept. 6. He was 92.

A World War II veteran, Sebian was grounds supervisor on the South Campus from 1953 until his retirement in 1987. He supervised construction of six parking lots and the expansion of two others.

After his retirement, he began volunteering at the St. Vincent de Paul Society in Buffalo, serving food and raising the morale among the people who came to the organization’s Main Street dining room.

“I feel really happy to be able to come down here,” Sebian told UBNow in 2015. “It’s a good feeling when they recognize me.”

Arlene Kaukus, director of career services who met Sebian at St. Vincent de Paul, called him “a great example of a UB retiree continuing to give back to the community and touching people’s lives.”

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 8:45 a.m. Sept. 10 at St. Gregory the Great Roman Catholic Church, 200 St. Gregory Court off Maple Road in Williamsville. Memorials may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul soup kitchen, the Parkinson's Association or Roswell Park Cancer Institute.
