GObike Bike Month Battle returns May 5

Published April 17, 2026

UB faculty and staff are invited to participate in the second annual Bike Month Battle, a friendly competition that encourages sustainable transportation and outdoor activity among multiple organizations throughout Western New York.

Organized by GObike as part of Bike Month and presented by Independent Health, the challenge will run from May 5 through June 1. The challenge encourages UB employees to log their miles as they walk, bike, run, roll or ride public transportation.

Participants earn points based on their activity — one point per mile biking, two points per mile walking or rolling and three points per mile on public transportation — with team scores calculated by average points per participants. Any outdoor activity counts, from commuting to work to walking the dog.

GObike recommends using Strava or Google Maps Timeline to track mileage; however, any tracking app can be used. To make entries official, participants must submit their mileage from the previous week by 10 a.m. each Tuesday using this form.

The competition features three round-robin weeks followed by a championship round, with the top two teams facing off for the title. The champions will be crowned at the Bike Breakfast Party at 8 a.m. June 4 at the BNMC Innovation Center. In addition to bragging rights, improved health and a set of SkyRide tickets, the winning organization will also bring home GObike’s custom-welded trophy.

UB employees who would like weekly reminders and updates can sign up using this form.
