Input sought on North Campus bikeway extension

Published December 8, 2025

Faculty, staff and students interested in a proposed Northtown bikeway extension that would run through portions of the UB North Campus are invited to attend a public workshop hosted by the Greater Buffalo-Niagara Regional Transportation Council from 6-7 p.m. Dec. 9 at the DFK Pavilion, 1200 Parker Blvd., Tonawanda.

The GBNRTC, responsible for regional transportation planning, is seeking public input on its planned “Northtown Community Trails Project,” which proposes a network of bikeways linking the towns of Tonawanda and Amherst, and the Village of Williamsville.

A key feature of the project is a new bikeway along Parker Boulevard in Tonawanda that would offer a safer, lower-traffic alternative to the heavily traveled Niagara Falls Boulevard.

Another segment of the proposed trail would stretch about seven miles parallel to the I-290 corridor, connecting to the North Campus via a combination of existing bicycle infrastructure. The project would potentially include some new improvements on campus where needs and opportunities are identified.

More information can be found on the project’s webpage.

GBNRTC is still early in the planning process, and just starting its feasibility study, so route alignments are subject to revision as planners study options and engage with stakeholders.
