The Zodiaque Dance Company, UB’s eminent pre-professional dance company for more than five decades, will present its fall program Oct 23-26 in the Drama Theatre in the Center for the Arts.
Performance times are 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday.
In keeping with ZDC’s mission, the fall program, co-directed by faculty members Kerry Ring and Michael Deeb Weaver, features a diverse array of dance styles, including modern, contemporary, jazz, tap and hip hop. Works will be created by faculty members Kurt Adametz and Chanon Judson. Judson will restage excerpts from Urban Bush Women's “Haint Blu,” along with Mame Diarra Spies.
The concert also will feature works by local choreographers Ariana Dixie and Rachael Leonard.
The program includes the contributions of former UB faculty member Thomas Ralabate, professor emeritus and former ZDC artistic director, and third-year MFA candidate Rebekah Bono, and showcases the work of students in the Theatre Design/Technology Program.
Tickets are $25 for general admission and $20 for UB employees, seniors and veterans; $15 for students; and $10 for UB students. Tickets can be purchased through Ticketmaster — fees apply when purchasing online — and at the Center for the Arts box office from noon to 6 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays.
A special $35 UB Dance Day ticket is available for the Sunday performance, which includes admission to the 2 p.m. concert, as well as admission to a participatory, pre-show workshop for individuals ages 14 and up in the Center for the Arts dance studios. Those attending should arrive at noon outside the dance studios (rooms B82 and B84 in the basement of the building) for check-in. The workshop focuses on the movement presented in the 2 p.m. performance and includes observation of the company warming up, plus a Q&A with UB dance majors. No specific dancewear is required, but attendees should come dressed to move.
