The Center for the Arts will again open its doors to the public on Oct. 30 for “Art in the Open,” an opportunity for the campus community and the public to experience the energy, creativity and diversity of UB’s arts hub.
The free event, taking place from 5-8 p.m. throughout the CFA, includes live performances exhibitions, open studios and installations that highlight the work of UB faculty and students across the arts.
Among the live performances will be one by Buffalo-based band Lazlo Hollyfeld at 7 p.m. in the atrium. Known for their experimental, instrumental sound, Lazlo Hollyfeld holds a unique place in the center’s history as the first musical guest featured in the “Music is Art Live @ the Center” television series that celebrated Western New York’s leading contemporary musicians and visual artists through performances recorded at the CFA in partnership with the Music is Art organization.
“Art in the Open is one of our favorite ways to celebrate the incredible talent across the arts at UB,” says Jamie Enser, CFA executive director. “Having Lazlo Hollyfeld return to the same stage where they performed 25 years ago perfectly captures the spirit of this event, connecting generations of artists, students and our wider community through art and shared experiences.”
Complimentary refreshments will be offered, while supplies last.
Art in the Open is presented by the CFA in collaboration with the departments of Art, Media Study, Music and Theatre and Dance, as well as the Arts Management Program and the UB Art Galleries.
