History professor Claire S. Schen has been appointed associate dean for undergraduate research and scholarship in Undergraduate Education, a new position in UGE.

In the new role, Schen will lead development of an overarching vision and strategic plan to grow undergraduate research at UB, broadening opportunities for undergraduate students to engage with research, scholarship and related experiential activities in academic disciplines across the university.

She will also oversee the Experiential Learning Network and serve as a member of the vice provost of undergraduate education’s cabinet.

A UB faculty member since 2002, Schen has held other administrative roles at UB, most recently as associate dean for undergraduate education in the College of Arts and Sciences, where she was involved in various curricular innovations and initiatives supporting undergraduate student recruitment and success.
