The Professional Staff Senate’s Sustainable Living Committee is sponsoring a free electronics recycling event, as well as a food drive for UB’s Blue Table food pantry and clothing and sporting goods collections for off-campus agencies, on Sept. 18 at the Center for Tomorrow.
Members of the UB community can drop off personal electronics, food, clothing and sports equipment from 7:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. in the CFT parking lot on the North Campus.
Participants are asked to remain in their cars; event volunteers will do the heavy lifting.
Among the items accepted for recycling are computers and computer accessories, office equipment, TVs, game consoles, lab equipment, medical equipment, mobile devices, cable boxes, GPS units, wires, cables, fitness trackers and smart watches.
The electronics will be collected by Sunnking; a detailed list of what is accepted and what is not accepted is available online.
Donations of non-perishable food also will be collected to support UB's Blue Table initiative. The most requested items are shelf-stable soy and almond milk, 1-lb. bags of white rice, toothpaste and deodorant.
In addition, gently used clothing will be collected for the community group Hearts for the Homeless. And gently used sports equipment will be donated to Leveling the Playing Field to help support children’s athletics in Western New York.
