J. Brice Bible is stepping down as vice president and chief information officer to take on the same role at the University of South Carolina.

His last day at UB will be Feb. 29. An interim vice president and CIO will be named in the coming weeks.

Bible came to UB in 2013 from Ohio University, where he served as the first enterprise-wide CIO. Throughout his tenure at UB, he helped foster a state-of-the-art IT environment conducive to the university’s expanding research portfolio.

UBIT accomplishments during his time at UB include implementation of a governance and project prioritization model, establishment of a classroom technology upgrade initiative and installation of an enterprise-wide, 6,000-access-point Wi-Fi environment on UB’s three campuses.

Across the broader region, Brice also was instrumental in a developing an IT collaborative of Western New York education constituents.

In an email to the UB community announcing Bible’s departure, President Satish K. Tripathi thanked him for his commitment to UB’s strategic goals, noting that as a result of his leadership, UBIT “has harnessed technology to support and enhance all aspects of our university operations, optimizing our IT practices in service of UB’s mission of academic and research excellence.”

A national search for Bible’s successor will begin immediately, Tripathi said, with Ananth Iyer, dean of the School of Management, serving as chair of the search committee.
