Program offers tax benefits for contributing to UB

Donors to UB — including faculty and staff — can now take advantage of a limited-time opportunity to receive significant tax benefits by contributing to UB through the SUNY Impact Foundation.

The foundation’s New York State Charitable Tax Credit Program enables qualified donors to receive credits and deductions on their New York State and federal taxes, offering an exceptional opportunity for donors to contribute to UB in a tax-efficient manner.

“As UB faculty and staff, our support of the university and its students sends a strong message about the personal value the university has in our lives,” says John Canty, SUNY Distinguished Professor and Albert and Elizabeth Rekate Professor of Medicine. “I was fortunate enough to benefit from this tax program last year and delighted that I’ll once again have the opportunity to make a contribution to UB while realizing significant tax benefits.”

To qualify for the program, donors contribute gifts ranging from $10,000 to $100,000 to the SUNY Impact Foundation. Donors can then designate their intention for the gift and/or establish a new fund at UB. Qualified donors will then be able to access the following benefits: 85% tax credit on their New York State taxes; 15% deduction on New York State taxes for those who itemize their deductions; and/or 15% deduction on federal taxes for those who itemize their deductions.

Donors interested in this opportunity to save on their taxes and contribute to UB must complete an application for eligibility. Applications must be received by 5 p.m. EST on Sept. 30, 2023, and donations must be received by Nov. 30, 2023, to qualify.
