Search launched for new chief of police

Published June 15, 2023

The search for a new chief of police at UB has begun with the appointment of a search committee chaired by Joe Raab, director of Environment, Health and Safety.

The search is seeking a successor to Chris Bartolomei, who will retire as chief of University Police later this summer after 27 years with UPD — the last five as acting chief, then chief.

In addition to Raab, members of the search committee include:

  • John Della Contrada, vice president, University Communications.
  • Brian Hamluk, vice president, Student Life.
  • Jacqueline Hollins, interim vice provost, Inclusive Excellence.
  • Jocelyn Jakubus, director, University and Presidential Events.
  • Jim Jarvis, chief campus counsel.
  • Sharon Nolan-Weiss, director, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.

UB also has hired the executive search firm Public Sector Search & Consulting to assist with the search. Justin Doll, a member of the firm who will be working on the search, has recruited a broad range of senior executives for municipalities, special districts, and universities.

The search committee is holding a listening session on June 21 to discuss interests and priorities for the search. The session will take place from 4-5 p.m. via Zoom: https://buffalo.zoom.us/j/98948433974?pwd=Vk5TMENxNUYzRVF6RnVnNlRPQWhrdz09

Meeting ID: 989 4843 3974; Passcode: 252173

All interested members of the university community are encouraged to attend.
