Members of the UB community will have a chance to offer their input as the university begins its search for a new provost and executive vice president for academic affairs.

The newly appointed search committee will hold listening sessions on the North and South campuses to assist the panel as it begins the search for the successor to Charles F. Zukoski, who becomes provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at the University of Southern California on Oct. 1.

The sessions will take place from 1-2 p.m. Oct. 1 in The Buffalo Room, 10 Capen Hall, North Campus, and from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Oct. 2 in the ballroom in Harriman Hall on the South Campus.

At these sessions, search committee representatives will provide a brief overview of the search process, respond to questions from participants, and hear from participants regarding the challenges and opportunities they foresee for UB’s next provost, and the priorities they would suggest to the search committee as it prepares to evaluate candidates.

The sessions are open to all faculty, staff and students. Those unable to attend a listening session may offer input to the search committee using this link. This survey site will remain active for comments and questions throughout the search; it collects all input confidentially.

The search committee is co-chaired by David A. Milling, senior associate dean for student and academic affairs and associate professor in the Department of Medicine, Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, and Catherine Norgren, professor in the Department of Theatre and Dance. It includes UB senior leadership, faculty, staff, students and key external constituents. Click here for the full roster.

The university also has hired the consulting firm Russell Reynolds Associates to assist in the search. Jett Pihakis, partner, will be the principal from the firm working on the search. Pihakis has experience in recruiting leaders to UB at the cabinet, decanal and department chair levels.

President Satish K. Tripathi, who appointed the search committee, says he expects an appointment to be made by the end of the fall semester.

A search website is now active with information on the search process, committee, communications, and application and nomination procedures. Additional information will be posted on the site as it becomes available.
