Department of Music to present faculty recitals

The Department of Music will present recitals by several faculty members during the fall semester.

First up is organist Roland E. Martin, who will perform at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 27 in Lippes Concert Hall in Slee Hall, North Campus.

The program will include “O Antiphon Preludes” by Nico Muhly, “3 Antiphons” by Cecilia McDowall, and a new work by Martin. Martin will be accompanied by Janz Castelo, viola; Robert Gerst, baritone; Eva Herer, cello; and Jon Nelson, trumpet.

Oboist Megan Kyle will perform at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 1 in Lippes Concert Hall. Kyle will perform virtuosic works for solo oboe, from Telemann to Berio to Ko.

Retired UB music professor and pianist Stephen Manes returns to campus to join cellist Jonathan Golove, associate professor and chair of the Department of Music, for a concert at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 17 in Baird Recital Hall, 250 Baird Hall, North Campus.

The program will include The Killer Bs’ (Beethoven, Brahms, Barber and Bartók) “Cello and Piano Edition” (1801-1932), featuring Beethoven’s Variations on Mozart’s “Bei Männern, welche Liebe fühlen”; Barber’s Cello Sonata in C minor, Op. 6; Bartók’s Romanian Folk Dances; and Brahms’ Cello Sonata No. 1 in E minor, Op. 38.

Tickets to all three recitals are available through a variety of outlets at the following pricing structure:

UB faculty, staff, alumni, seniors and non-UB students

$10 plus $2.18 fee and minimal credit card charge at eventbrite.

$14 in person at the Center for the Arts (noon to 6 p.m., Tuesday through Friday)

$17 in person at the door (one hour before concert time)
