Raymond Dannenhoffer, associate dean for support services at the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at UB, recently received the 2019 Newman Award from UB Catholic, the university’s Catholic Campus Ministry.

The award, which recognizes a member of the UB community for his or her outstanding service to the community, was presented Sept. 15 during the 43rd Annual Convocation and Mass of the Holy Spirit held at St. Joseph University Parish to celebrate the beginning of the new academic year.

For more than 30 years, Dannenhoffer has served UB students preparing for professions in the health sciences, particularly medical and dental students, by guiding and mentoring them in the skills and character needed to be good caregivers. He also supervises the university’s Gross Anatomy labs and oversees UB’s Anatomical Gift Program, working to make sure donors are respected and honored for their gift that serves as the “greatest teacher” for future dentists and physicians.

Previous recipients of the Newman Award are UB women’s head basketball coach Felisha Legette-Jack; UB faculty members Claude Welch and Jeannette Ludwig; former SUNY chancellor and SUNY Distinguished Service Professor Emeritus D. Bruce Johnstone and his wife, Gail Johnstone; and Monsignor J. Patrick Keleher, director of the UB Newman Center.
