UB receives two top CASE awards

Published July 12, 2019

UB received two top international awards from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), the global association for professionals working in advancement services, alumni relations, communications, fundraising and marketing at colleges, universities, independent schools and affiliated nonprofits.

The Boldly Buffalo Campaign Publications Package entry received a bronze award in the Circle of Excellence Awards, fundraising publications packages category.

The campaign publications package was produced by the Division of University Advancement, with initial creative direction provided by the Division of University Communications. The entry consists of a suite of materials and style guide for the university’s fundraising campaign. Materials showcase modern and vibrant designs, bold typography and inspiring language, leaning on UB’s brand platform.

In addition, UB’s entry, Boldly Buffalo: The Campaign for UB Launch Program, was named a finalist in the Platinum Awards, among nearly 400 entries. CASE Platinum Awards recognize the “best-of-the-best” programs and practices in educational advancement globally. The Division of University Advancement produced the launch event and related collateral materials.

“We knew we had to create bold and future-forward campaign materials and two exciting launch events to kick off UB’s largest campaign in university — and SUNY — history,” says Rodney Grabowski, vice president for university advancement.

CASE’s Circle of Excellence awards program received 2,856 entries for consideration in 100 categories by 611 member higher education institutions, independent schools and nonprofits from 20 countries. Judges gave more than 400 awards in the following categories: bronze, silver, gold and grand gold. Winners are selected based on a number of factors, including overall quality, innovation, use of resources and the impact on the institution or its external and internal communities, such as alumni, parents, students, and faculty and staff.

Sue Cunningham, president and CEO of CASE, commends this year’s recipients for their bold, innovative work that epitomizes the profession’s best practices. “These awards demonstrate our members’ success in advancing their institutions through their remarkable work,” Cunningham says.

Regarding the CASE Platinum Awards, “You and your colleagues at the University at Buffalo are indeed in rare company,” she says. “To be named a finalist in this global award competition is indeed a distinction worth noting and celebrating.”
