A town hall will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. May 9 in The Buffalo Room, 10 Capen Hall, where information on the start of pre-construction activity on One World Café will be made available to the campus community.

Abatement of asbestos will begin on the first floor of Capen Hall on May 20.

Those who are unable to attend the meeting can access a recording of the event online.

Centrally located under the overhangs of Capen Hall and Founders Plaza on the North Campus, One World Café will create a front door to the university and bring a diverse selection of foods from around the world to the UB community.

“One World Café will be built to serve the high traffic that is found in this central North Campus location,” says Graham Hammill, vice provost for educational affairs and dean of the graduate school.

“The start of construction for this project is only a few months away,” says Hammill, who is also chair of the steering committee. As with any major construction project taking place within a built environment, this also means a significant amount of disruption for members of the UB community.

“The construction of One World Café will affect everyone on the North Campus,” he says.

Construction is expected to begin by late summer or early fall. Members of the One World Café steering committee, together with construction manager Turner Construction, will be reaching out to those members of the campus community who will be directly impacted.

“Town hall meetings for all affected groups will begin by the end of spring semester,” says Rhonda Ransom, UB Facilities, Design and Construction project manager. “We are in the process of compiling a comprehensive list of stakeholder representatives, so we will be in touch with those who are located in Norton and ground-, first- and second-floor Capen Hall.”
