Leaders from the business, nonprofit and academic worlds will come together on May 10 for a conference hosted by the School of Management’s Center for Leadership and Organizational Effectiveness (CLOE).

The daylong event, “Lead Together,” will focus on building inclusiveness across businesses and organizations in today’s world. Keynote speakers will include Ted Childs, workplace diversity expert and retired IBM vice president; Geoffrey Leonardelli, associate professor of organizational behavior and human resource management in the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management; and Barb Stegemann, author and founder of The 7 Virtues Peace Perfumes, a company that sources organic, fair trade essential oils from countries experiencing turmoil.

The conference will begin at 8 a.m. at the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at UB, 955 Main St., Buffalo.

“Visionary leaders appeal to the ideals we aspire to accomplish together,” says Paul Tesluk, professor and dean of School of Management. “We need leaders who work to advance equity, improve diversity and build inclusive workplace cultures, and invite you to join us at this conference so we can work together to build a better, more inclusive world.” 

Additional leadership presentations throughout the day will feature research from UB School of Management faculty and lessons from top industry experts.

The event builds upon the success of previous CLOE conferences, which have offered opportunities to learn about the power of people-oriented leadership, social innovation and entrepreneurship, emerging research and how to put that research into practice, and new ways to build collaborations and relationships.

Launched in fall 2013, CLOE strives to create more effective leaders and organizations. One of the center’s key objectives is to advance research and teaching in the area of leadership and its impact on organizational effectiveness.
