The search for the next vice provost for university libraries is underway, with the appointment of a search committee headed by Suzanne Rosenblith, dean of the Graduate School of Education.

The search is seeking a successor to Austin Booth, who left UB last summer to become dean of the Division of Libraries at New York University. Elizabeth Adelman, former vice dean for legal information services and director of the Charles B. Sears Law Library in the School of Law, has been serving as interim vice provost since June 13.

The search committee, appointed by Provost Charles Zukoski, includes faculty and staff from University Libraries and across the university.

In addition to Rosenblith, other members of the search committee are:

  • Theodora Belniak, interim associate university librarian and vice dean for legal information services, University Libraries.
  • Donna Berryman, head, Health Sciences Library Services, University Libraries.
  • Brice Bible, vice president and chief information officer.
  • Ann Bisantz, dean of undergraduate education and professor, Industrial and Systems Engineering, School of Engineering and Applied Sciences.
  • Javier Blanco, professor, Pharmaceutical Sciences, School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences.
  • Neil Coffee, professor, Classics, College of Arts and Sciences.
  • Christopher Hollister, interim head of scholarly communication, University Libraries.
  • Damien Keane, associate professor, English, College of Arts and Sciences, and chair, Faculty Senate Library Committee.
  • Lynn Kozlowski, professor, Community Health and Health Behavior, School of Public Health and Health Professions.
  • James Maynard, curator, Poetry Collection, University Libraries.
  • Valerie Nesset, associate professor, Information Science, Graduate School of Education.
  • Kathleen O’Brien, assessment and resource planning officer, University Libraries.
  • Shenqiang Ren, professor, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, School of Engineering and Applied Sciences.
  • Robin Schulze, dean, College of Arts and Sciences.
  • Diane Schwartz, research associate professor, Biomedical Informatics, Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences.
  • Thomas Slomka, instructional support specialist, Office of Educational Effectiveness.
  • Eva Zurek, professor, Chemistry, College of Arts and Sciences.

UB also has hired the consulting firm of Isaacson, Miller to assist in the search. The principal from the firm who will work on this search is Beverly Brady, assisted by Caitlin Barrett. Brady has extensive experience in leading academic library searches for universities, including many of UB’s AAU counterparts.

Zukoski says the goal is to complete the search process by July 1.

During the coming months, Rosenblith will update the university community regarding the committee’s progress. Information will also be available on the search website.
