“Building You: Even Better,” the Professional Staff Senate’s biennial professional development conference, will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. June 7 at the Hotel Henry Urban Resort Conference Center on the Richardson Olmstead Campus, Elmwood and Forest avenues, Buffalo.

The conference is hosted by the PSS’ Staff Development and Engagement Committee.

The keynote speaker is Patrick Oliver, a retired project manager at Rand & Jones Enterprises Company Inc., a general construction firm. Oliver will discuss his “Strategies for Building a Successful Career,” which took him from working as a cleaner and custodian in the Buffalo Public Schools to superintendent of buildings and grounds for the Ken-Ton school district, to a project manager at the Niagara Falls Air Force Base, and finally to Rand & Jones.

Oliver will talk about how he advanced his career — not by relying on formal education, personal connections or automatic promotions, but on five key principles that he says enabled him to make the changes he desired.

Conference participants can choose from numerous breakout sessions, have a free, professional headshot taken, and meet one-on-one with a career coach.

The $35 registration fee includes all conference sessions, continental breakfast, lunch, afternoon snack and door prizes.

The conference is open to all UB professional staff members.
