UB ranked among nation’s 25 Best Green Colleges, according to College Consensus

BUFFALO, N.Y. — A new college review aggregator has ranked the University at Buffalo among the nation’s 25 most environmentally friendly colleges and universities.

UB came in at No. 22 on College Consensus’ 25 Best Green Colleges list. UB is one of just two universities — the other is No. 8 Syracuse University — in New York State to be honored.

The Best Green Colleges highlights the nation’s leading institutions in sustainability.UB was recognized for its ability to generate its own green power thanks to the Solar Strand, SteelWinds and other efforts, as well as its leadership of Localizing Buffalo’s Renewable Energy Future. The initiative aims to develop up to 100 megawatts of renewable energy within the next four years.

The schools featured in the ranking have been selected because of their recognition from the Environmental Protection Agency as the largest green power users among higher education institutions in the Green Power Partnership. The ranking is ordered according to each school’s College Consensus aggregate score.

College Consensus combines the results of all of the most reputable college rankings publishers and thousands of student reviews from around the web to provide what it says is the most accurate and comprehensive ranking of a school’s reputation and quality.

The rankings are calculated by taking the combined average of a school’s Publisher Consensus and Student Consensus scores.

The Publisher Consensus is a school’s average rating score from college rankings publishers such as U.S. News & World Report, Forbes and the Academic Ranking of World Universities. The Student Consensus score is derived from reputable student review sites like Cappex, My Plan and Students Review.

UB received a Student Consensus score of 68.8, a Publisher Consensus score of 51.4, giving it a 60.1 College Consensus rating. The University of Pennsylvania was No. 1 with a College Consensus score of 79.
