Vox quotes Dominic Sellitto in a story about phone apps that users forget about. The more these apps know about the user, the better they can market and sell. “Learning those habits and turning that back into marketing is one of the big draws,” Sellitto says. Sellitto also believes there are two ways people will react as more of their personal information is used for marketing. “One pathway is people get more and more protective of their privacy, and that spurs legislation or some sort of movement that changes the way this works, or, on the flip side, we all just get desensitized to it and say, ‘Bummer, my credit card got stolen again,’” Sellitto says.
