The fight over Native American adoptions is about more than just the children

An article in TIME Magazine about the Indian Child Welfare Act and the complexities of foster care and adoption among Native American families interviews Melanie Sage. In an ideal world, every state would have social workers who understand ICWA, social welfare agencies and tribal governments would have enough staff to give every case personal attention and there would be culturally appropriate support services available for families around the country, she said, but the reality looks very different.
