Is there a connection between undocumented immigrants and crime?

An article in The New York Times about those who argue that, while research shows there is no causal relationship between immigration and crime in the U.S., it is unauthorized immigrants who increase crime, not immigrants overall, reports that early results of research by Robert Adelman, has suggests unauthorized immigration has no effect on violent crime and is associate with lower property crime.
