Binge watching TV can lead to stress, anxiety and depression

An article in England’s The Guardian about television binge-watching and the author’s experiences when he turned off the television for a month interviews Jessica Kruger, clinical assistant professor of community health and health behavior in the UB School of Public Health and Health Professions, who has studied the health impact of binge-watching. “We’ve found that self-proclaimed binge-watchers exhibit higher levels of stress, anxiety and depression,” she said. “There are also studies out of Harvard showing that among people who spend two hours watching TV the risk of diabetes goes up by 20 percent, the risk of heart disease by 15 percent and early death by 13 percent.”
