UB ranks among nation’s best public universities in U.S. News rankings

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo again ranks among the nation’s top public colleges and universities, according to the 2027 U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges rankings released today.

UB is No. 40 among the nation’s best public universities and 85th overall, which includes both public and private universities.

In addition, UB is 30th among public universities in Best Value Schools (110th among public and private) and comes in at No. 41 in a new ranking this year — Best Value Schools for In-State Students. UB is 40th among public universities in Best Colleges for Veterans (53rd among public and private) and came in at No. 57 in Top Performers on Social Mobility.

A premier, research-intensive public university, UB is a flagship university of New York State and a member of the Association of American Universities (AAU), comprised of the top research universities in North America.  The largest institution in SUNY, UB  is consistently recognized as one of the world’s most exceptional and most affordable universities.

UB’s School of Engineering and Applied Sciences’ undergraduate program in engineering improved one spot in the U.S. News rankings to No. 32 among public universities (57th nationally) and its program in computer science went up six places to 40th among public universities and 75th nationally.

Meanwhile, the School of Nursing’s Bachelor of Science in nursing program is No. 41 among public universities, up one spot from last year, and No. 56 nationally, an improvement of three spots.

The psychology program in the College of Arts and Sciences was also ranked among the nation’s best, coming in at No. 56 among public universities and 115th among public and private colleges. The college’s economics program was No. 53 among public universities and 110th overall.

The School of Management’s undergraduate business program was ranked No. 61 among public universities. The school was ranked No. 2 in the nation last week by Bloomberg Businessweek based on the return on investment it provides MBA graduates.
